Season 9 of Chicago Med premiered on January 17, 2024 with the episode Row Row Row Your Boat on a Rocky Sea and concluded on May 22, 2024 with the episode I Think I Know You, But Do I Really?
Background[]
Chicago Med was renewed for a ninth season in April 2023, along with its sister shows Chicago Fire and Chicago PD.[1]
In April 2023, it was revealed that the main cast of all 3 Dick Wolf shows would take pay cuts and appear in fewer episodes[2].
On July 19, 2023 it was confirmed by NBC[3] that due to the SAG-AFTRA strike[4], the entire One Chicago franchise (Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD) would be delayed to 2024.
On November 13, 2023, it was revealed that production on Season 9 was officially set to start on November 29, 2023, with the season projected to contain around 10-13 episodes, down from the usual 20.[5]
Also in November 2023, Jessy Schram revealed that there would be a time jump at the start of Season 9[6].
Rumors also swirled about a new doctor character being added to the cast, possibly with connections to Daniel Charles' past.[7] On December 21, 2023 it was confirmed that Luke Mitchell was cast as Dr. Mitch Ripley[8].
Med aired on Wednesdays at 8PM EST, followed by Fire at 9PM EST and P.D. at 10PM EST.[9]
