Peter is homosexual (or possibly bisexual). According to him, his husband, Lawrence, is the best divorce attorney in Chicago. They have a son together, Zach Dayle-Kalmick.
Peter consults on a case where a couple has medical power of attorney over their severely injured surrogate mother and is refusing to consent to a procedure to relieve the mother's brain pressure for fear that it will endanger their unborn baby. Peter sides with the couple, claiming the legal agreement is iron-clad.
Peter's son Zach comes into the ED with a knee problem. He is very upset because he will not be able to play during the recruiting season. Peter arranges for him to go to a scouting camp later that summer instead.
