Noah is the youngest child and only son of Brazilian immigrants. He and his sister were raised Catholic. His parents always insisted he should be a doctor, and so he struggled through medical school with the help of his talented sister, who sacrificed her own career for him.
Noah freezes while assisting Dr. Choi with a patient with a gunshot wound. He thinks Dr. Choi doesn't like him after that, so he takes credit for Sarah Reese's work to impress him. She won't tell on him if he makes it right. At the end of the episode April cancels her dinner plans with firefighter Kelly Severide in order to help Noah study for his exams.
Noah meets Crockett Marcel, who is giving himself IV fluids as a "pick-me-up" in an ED treatment room. He and Crockett treat a patient who was extracted from a crashed ambulance. They diagnose him with arterial stenosis, but disagree on the course of treatment. Crockett convinces the patient to have bypass surgery. When the power goes out during the surgery, Noah is called into the OR to assist. Crockett proposes to perform the surgery "off-pump" as the patient is not able to be put on bypass again, despite Noah's objections that it is too risky. Just as they successfully complete the procedure, the power returns. When Noah wants to apologize for some missteps during the procedure, Crockett instead compliments him on his skills, peaking Noah's interest in becoming a surgeon.
Inspired by Crockett's encouragement, Noah has started his residency in general surgery. Ethan gets annoyed with him and Crockett when they try to poach one of his patients. When the patient pulls through, he is surprised that Ethan isn't more happy.
He speaks Brazilian Portuguese fluently and he can also speak Spanish, possibly fluently.
