Unbeknownst to Matt, Sharon Goodwin instructs Will Halstead to open an investigation into Matt's pushing of the Vas-COM. Will's suspicions are confirmed on several occasions when Matt suggests the use of the device.

Secret Santa Has a Gift for You[]

Matt and Jessa Rinaldi are arrested by the FBI for fraud after Goodwin reports him for taking kickbacks to advocate for the use of the Vas-COM device, even when patients did not need them or when there was a cheaper alternative.

During this episode, Cooper also suffers a heart attack after overdosing on cocaine.

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished... in Chicago[]

Cooper has been released on bail, pending the FBI investigation. At the end of the episode, he challenges Goodwin to come at him with all she has.
