Dr. Marvin Jaffrey is a Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon and was the mentor of Dr. Ava Bekker. He came to Chicago for an operation at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center in Chicago Med.

In the episode On Shaky Ground, Dr. Jaffrey is at Gaffney for a surgery. He requests that he be awake for his entire open-heart surgery as he is sensitive to anesthesia. Dr. Bekker immediately agrees, as Dr. Jaffrey was her mentor. Dr. Latham agrees with Dr. Bekker, even though Dr. Rhodes was very obviously against it. Dr. Rhodes argues with this outside of the room, but is eventually defeated by Dr. Bekker and Dr. Latham. They go on to proceed with this surgery, however mid-way through the surgery, Dr. Jaffrey insults Dr. Bekker's surgical technique, and Dr. Rhodes orders Marty to put the patient under general anesthesia. After the surgery, the surgical team tells Dr. Jaffrey that the surgery went well, and he tells Dr. Bekker that he is disappointed. Dr. Rhodes comforts her.
