Kelly initially claims that her name is Lisa. She is diagnosed by Ethan with a bacterial infection, needing IV antibiotics. Ethan decides to bring in Daniel and April due to Kelly's apparent fear of needles. Daniel and April quickly establish that their patient is acting very strangely, being unable to keep her story straight and appearing unfamiliar with modern culture and technology. Ethan initially brushes it off as a fear of hospitals, but when Kelly does not recognize or know what to do with an iPad, Daniel realizes she may have been abducted as a child and subsequently held in seclusion. While they are initially unable to find a match for any missing persons, after Ethan de-ages a photo of her face using an app on his phone, Daniel recognizes her as Kelly Bissett, a child who went missing from Wheaton, Illinois years before.

When Kelly is questioned by Officer Anita Rosado, she claims not to be the missing girl, but Daniel brushes this off as brainwashing. When Kelly attempts to leave, she has to be violently restrained by security. Fearing a court order for a DNA test would take too much time, Daniel and April decide to pay a visit to Kelly's mother at her home. Mrs. Bissett is initially very wary, even refusing to look at a picture due to all the false hope she has had to endure over the years. She refuses to come to the hospital to verify that Kelly is her lost daughter.

Back at the hospital, April shows Kelly a teddy bear which she took from her mother's house, which she appears to recognize. She admits to being Kelly Bissett and breaks down in tears. Mrs. Bissett, having been persuaded to come to the hospital after Kelly's confession, recognizes her lost daughter immediately and takes her in her arms.
