A Penny For Your Thoughts, Dollar For Your Dreams[]

Kai is seen at the beginning of the episode, grabbing an easter egg from Maggie's basket while chatting with Maggie and Dr. Zola Ahmad before an incoming patient is brought in. Kai and Dr. Ahmad rush to aid the patient, Carson Miller who has late-stage fibrosis and presents with difficulty breathing and a fever of 103, they're told that Carson is on the transplant list and has been waiting for 3 years. In the next scene, Kai is seen aiding Crockett Marcel with the surgery of the same patient, removing his lungs.

Their ECMO circuit keeps kinking off as they try to stabilize the heart. Dr. Marcel says that the pads are either too firm or not bulky enough. Dr. Marcel goes off to search for something they can use, Dr. Ahmad reccomends that they use breast implants. Kai is somewhat baffled when he sees breast implants being brought in, saying, "You gotta be kidding me" to which Dr. Marcel reponds that he isn't. Dr. Ahmad's idea works and the heart is held in place.

Spin A Yarn, Get Stuck In Your Own String[]

Dr. Crockett Marcel begins to act more harsh and stern on Kai due to Zola Ahmad's suspencion. Dean Archer tells Dr. Marcel to keep an eye on his resident today. Dr. Marcel and Kai are assigned a case, Kai introducing himself to the patient. Kai tells someone else to give the patient some versed, Dr. Marcel stopping them and saying that the BP's soft. Kai tries to argue back against this but gives in. Dr. Marcel mentions that the pelvis is loose and Kai asks to get the patient an X-Ray. Dr. Marcel says to get a binder on him in the meantime, Kai asking why they shouldn't wait for an X-Ray first to which Dr. Marcel replies that he knows a busted pelvis when he feels one. Dr. Marcel is told that he's needed somewhere else at the moment and Kai says that he can bind a pelvis without supervision. Kai asks Maggie what Dr. Marcel's deal is today, Maggie doesn't respond and simply walks away.

In the next scene Kai and Maggie are seen preparing the patient to go up to in radiology. Dr. Marcel asks if Kai's been transfussing the patient to which Kai responds obviously in a passive-aggressive tone. The patient's pressure drops and Kai says they need to give him more blood. Dr. Marcel tells him that they need to take him to the OR instead. Kai is seen composing himself for a second before asking if the OR is an unnecessary delay, saying they should continue to ressusitate him at IR. Dr. Marcel argues against this, Dr. Marcel saying good judgement comes from experience, experience comes from bad judgement. Kai smiles and tell Dr. Marcel he should put that on a bumper sticker. Dr. Marcel appears to get somewhat annoyed at this, simply saying "Let's go." In the OR Dr. Marcel is explaining how to do something to Kai and Kai completes Dr. Marcel's sentence, saying he knows the steps. As Kai begins the incision, the two share somewhat annoyed looks at eachother.

Sometime later Maggie informs them that the patients spouse is asking for an update, Dr. Marcel saying as soon as Kai is finishes packing, they'll close him an take him to IR, adding a sarcastic "So hopefully anyday now." Kai glares over at Dr. Marcel, Marty Peterson informing them that the patients temperature is down to 96.8, Dr. Marcel telling Kai to move faster. Kai responds that he's trying in an annoyed and stressed tone. A few moments later Dr. Marcel says in a tone more raised for him to hurry up. Kai places down the tools says "If I'm not moving fast enough, do it yourself." The two men stare at eachother for a few moments before Dr. Marcel tells Kai to step away from the table. Kai says gladly before leaving, obviously stressed and angry. Once Dr. Marcel finishes the procedure Maggie pulls him aside to talk to him, asking if Dr. Marcel was trying to break Kai's confidence, Dr. Marcel responding that the patient was crashing and Kai has confidence to spare. Maggie says that tells him that it wasn't a crisis point. They go back and forth for a few moments before Maggie asks if Dr. Marcel thinks he was too lax on Dr. Ahmad, Dr. Marcel saying that he was clearly too lax on Dr. Ahmad. Maggie reminds Dr. Marcel that Dr. Ahmad was a third year resident and it wasn't Dr. Marcel's fault, adding that it also wasn't Kai's. She finishes off by telling him not to take it out on him.

In the final scene with Kai, Kai is seen timing himself and practicing the procedure from earlier, Dr. Marcel stops and looks over, a small smile on his face before it fades. He walks in and tells Kai not to time himself, saying Kai's pace is just fine and that if he rushes he'll start to make mistakes before leaving the room.
