Biography[]

Helen's son Jeff was killed in action about 3 months before the start of season 1. She is divorced.

Season One[]

Helen is introduced as the supportive ex-mother-in-law of Natalie Manning, who has just given birth to her son Owen, who was fathered by Helen's deceased son Jeff.

Helen is initially wary of Natalie's close relationship with Will Halstead, even guilting him into staying away when Natalie goes into labor because she considers their relationship inappropriate given the short amount of time since her son has passed away. Later on, when Helen becomes fearful that Natalie may take her grandson out of state and away from her, she selfishly manipulates Will into further developing his relationship with Natalie in order to get her to stay in Chicago.

After season one[]

Helen is occasionally mentioned to be acting as a babysitter to Owen, but she is not seen on screen again.
